24-HOUR HOSPITAL CARE
Emergencies can occur at any time. Our doors are open to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with an on-call veterinarian and experienced staff ready to help your pet.

BATHING
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor – your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching. Services also include nail trim and ear cleaning.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE
Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. Our Doctors are knowledgeable about the animal behavior field. We can help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen for the client.

BIRDS, REPTILES, RABBITS AND SMALL MAMMALS
Veterinary medicine for exotic pets is growing as the popularity of these animals increase. With better public education in health, nutritional and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives. We employ staff veterinarians who possess experience in the care and treatments of exotics.

BLOOD TRANSFUSION
We have the ability to provide blood transfusions for all types of pets in case of emergency. The blood is collected from donor pets that live with their owners.

BOARDING
Pets are like our children – we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our animal care takers do the same when you can't be there. We provide tender loving care (such as brushing and cuddling), and supervised outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. We also offer day time boarding.

BRONCHOSCOPY
High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination of your pet’s respiratory system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the nasal cavity, trachea and lungs.

COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE
Our clinic embraces the holistic approach to pet health and wellness. We balance traditional medicine with acupuncture, massage, herbal and chiropractic therapies.

DENTAL CARE
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Advanced dental care is available, including root canals, caps and braces.

EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE
In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. We offer 24 hour emergency care. In addition, we are a local, fully staffed emergency center.

ENDOSCOPY
High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet’s gastrointestinal system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and even upper intestinal tract disease. Foreign objects can also be removed without the need for surgery.

FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY
We stock a range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field.

HOSPICE/EUTHANASIA SERVICES
Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet's comfort and dignity. We have a crematorium for those who wish to have their pet cremated. Urns are also available. Engraving is also available.

HOUSE CALLS
We are available for house calls if you are unable to bring your pet to the clinic.

IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE
We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

INTERNAL MEDICINE
We cover all areas of internal medicine, including: Cardiology; Ophthalmology; Neurology; Dermatology; Gastroenterology; Orthopedic surgery; Oncology; Endocrinology; among others.

LAPAROSCOPY
High-tech fiber optics permit direct visual examination of your pet’s abdominal cavity without the need for a large surgical incision. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of various abdominal diseases and disorders.

LASERS
Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as cyst, tumor, and wart removal. All of our feline declaws are done with the laser. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort.

MICROCHIPPING
Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING
Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. Our trained staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active. We carry Science Diet, Nature's Variety and Eukanuba.

PAIN MANAGEMENT
Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.

DIGITAL IMAGING
Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.

SPECIALIZED SURGERY
Our veterinary surgeons are able to perform eye surgery, neurosurgery and orthopedic surgical procedures.

SURGERY
We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients are carefully screened for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. Surgical services and facilities include: surgeons available for consultation; fully trained veterinary and technical staff, to ensure the safest, most efficient, procedures for your pet; heated surgery tables for greater comfort; advanced sterilization techniques; cutting edge surgical monitoring equipment including: ECG, oxygen saturation monitors, heart rate and blood pressure; intensive care after surgery and full blood testing.

ULTRASOUND
This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.

RoomMORE ABOUT LASER SURGERY

Benefits of Laser Surgery

Tissue Ablation:  The laser energy instantly vaporized the intracellular water, ablating the cells, while leaving the surrounding tissue virtually unaffected.

Hemostasis:  The laser energy seals small blood vessels as it cuts.  The hand piece focuses the laser beam to 0.2 mm in diameter.  This precise beam is an excellent non-contact surgical instrument.  When defocused, the laser becomes a very effective coagulation device.  This provides a clear, dry surgical field for the veterinary surgeon.  Without bleeders obstructing the field, the overall procedure time may be decreased.

Decreased Swelling:  Atraumatic vaporization of tissue ensures no bruising or tearing of tissue.  This reduced trauma minimizes inflammatory responses and reduces swelling.

Decreased Post-Operative Pain:  The laser energy seals nerve ending therefore the patient feels less pain immediately post-surgery.

Quicker Recovery:  Non-tactile removal of tissue means reduced edema.  With less bleeding, swelling and pain the pet can resume normal activity at a faster rate.

Conclusion:  "Laser can be an important addition to the surgical offerings of all small animal practitioners.  This cutting edge technology allows the veterinarian to offer clients and patients a safe, painless, and more effective alternative to traditional surgery in many cases.  Clients with increased medical savvy are aware of these new technologies in human medicine and the veterinary profession is in the enviable position of being able to offer these technologies in a cost effective and medically effective manner"

MEET OUR GROOMERS

Hi!  My name is Pam McCollum, one of the groomers at Columbus Animal Hospital.  I am married with 6 children, 10 grandchildren, 3 dogs and 1 cat.  I have 10 years experience in grooming.  I enjoy grooming any canine from 2  lb. Yorkies to 160 lb. Newfoundlands and Pyrenees. I also groom cats.  I work Monday thru Friday starting at 8:00 am.  I like my animals dropped off between 8:00 - 9:00 am (although earlier can be arranged.)  And you can usually pick your animal up between 12:00 - 2:00 pm (later is also available). Pam and her husband Dennis volunteer for the Raptor Recovery Nebraska Relay Team.

Betty Rozanek is shown here with Simone. Grooming dogs is only a portion of what Betty does well.  She has raised and shown Vizslas for many years.  Betty and her husband have several champions in their kennels.
