Easter Warning: Lilies Are Fatal to Cats

 In Clinic News, Feline

Easter is coming and with it lilies. Be aware that lilies are extremely toxic to cats. This includes all true members of the Lilium species such as Asiatic, Easter, Tiger, and Day Lily varieties indoors and out.

A cat who ingests even a tiny piece of lily leaf, pollen or water from the vase is likely to go into irreversible kidney failure resulting in death. Early and aggressive veterinary treatment may be successful; however, the only reliable treatment is prevention.

It is heartbreaking when an Easter Lily is brought into a home and results in the death of loved feline family members.
